Itinerary*

Day One - Connecting concept, structure, and paper

Discussion and Demonstrations: Paper weight, content, and application. Methods for strengthening and sculpting paper, constructing forms. Individual mentoring and project planning. 

Students will select materials and decide on a concept. Making a mock-up.

Lunch and dinner on your own.

Day Two - Natural dyes, pigments, and processes.

The day will be spent at El Pavo Real Winery. The morning will be dedicated to materials and methods for painting and dye papers for use as book covers or elements in sculpture. We will have plenty of time for experiment and play in this lovely natural environment. We will have lunch at the winery and spend the afternoon is your activity of choice. You might enjoy continuing the morning activities,  getting out your camera,, sketching or drawing, or simply relax.

Day Three - Binding, Beeswax, and Boxes

Discussion and Demonstrations: Accordion fold binding, Japanese Stab binding, beeswax on paper, simple box or cover construction. 

Students will spend the day in making using one or more of the techniques learned over the last two days. 

Lunch and dinner on your own.

Day 4 - Intensive work then hot springs!

The morning will be spent working intensely on our projects. There will be time and instruction in printing your artwork or photographs. Each participant will be given personalized instruction toward their desired outcome.

We will head out as a group for lunch and the afternoon will be spent at the La Gruta hot springs.

Day Five - Studio visits and Finalizing your project

In the morning we will visit the studios of paper artist Terry Ann Tomlinson, Ezshwan (https://vawaa.com/artists/ezshwan-encaustic-painting-san-miguel-allende-mexico) and the Photographic Gallery SMA.

Students will spend the afternoon finishing up your projects. There will be time for questions, specific instructions, and rejoicing!

Lunch out as a group. Celebration dinner at the venue.
